A drawing states a design intent. Performance engineering is the work of proving whether the installed system meets it — and, where it does not, finding out why. Tech Xanh treats every HVAC system as something to be measured rather than assumed. Airflow, water flow, pressure relationships, temperature stability and control response are recorded against the specified values, and the gap between the two becomes the work list.
Air-side balancing covers supply, return and exhaust across AHUs, terminals, diffusers and grilles. Water-side balancing covers chilled and condenser water circuits, pumps, valves and coils. Readings are taken with calibrated instruments, recorded per terminal and per circuit, and adjusted until each branch carries its share of the total. A system that moves the right total volume can still starve one zone while over-serving another; balancing is what distributes it correctly.
Most shortfalls we find are not equipment failures. They are closed or partially closed volume control dampers, duct obstructions left from construction, filters loaded beyond their rated drop, drive frequencies set without reference to measurement, valves throttled to compensate for an upstream imbalance, and control set points that were never revisited after handover. Each of these is invisible on a schematic and obvious in the data.
Every engagement closes with recorded data, not a verbal report: balancing sheets per terminal and circuit, instrument list with calibration status, an issue register describing what was found and what was corrected, and a statement of final measured condition against design. That record is what a commissioning authority, a landlord or an auditor can act on a year later.
